The summer sun shone bright this morning as we borded the shuttle at the Honolulu Museum of Arts. Some of us strangers and others old friends, all ASID members we were there to experience one of Honolulu's most prized yet hidden gems, Doris Duke's Shangri La estate. Located on Black Point, the estate is unassuming from the exterior but once you enter the foyer you are in another world. The interior drips with Islamic art, furniture and architectural features. Walking though the estate you could easily envision the elegant Ms. Duke lounging poolside or coolly welcoming one guest or another in the living room.
After the hour and a half tour we shuttled back to the museum for designer chat and lunch at the museum cafe (Big Island Goat Cheese Salad = AMAZING!)
All in all not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning. A big thanks to ASID Hawaii and Honolulu Museum of Arts for allowing this to possible!
